As I mentioned previously, the R6 cable did NOT have a switch on it.

During the 60s and 70s Doug bought parts from estates and some closed dealerships up and down the west coast. From stories he told and confirmed by one of his friends who sometimes accompanied him when he went to pick up the parts, he took great pains to get the prewar stuff identified, packed, and loaded first -- even at the expense of leaving postwar items behind if he ran out of time, packing boxes, or space in his truck. Since the cable was included I figured he had chosen it because he knew it was prewar.

Sad part of that story is the many postwar parts he left behind. I hope they found a home other than a scrap yard but since ebay was a long time off wouldn't bet on it. From what he said many of the parts had to be removed by a deadline due to settlements and storage loss. By his own admission, Doug was one of the great procrastinators and a staunch prewar guy. A deadline for collecting the parts that might have been weeks away would suddenly be only days or hours by the time he arrived and during his collecting days Packards made past 1942 did not have nearly as much love. When I first met him in the early 70s it was still that way -- 1940s models were the best -- but he did mellow later on and started to drive and actually like a few of the postwar models.

I'm pretty sure it's either Ford or Studebaker. The switch on it may work for the R9 Packard unit, though.

Thanks for all the info fellows. I'm about to place an order w/ Merritt for the OD parts I'm missing, and new clutch/pres plate. I'm sure I'll be back w/ more questions.

Installed a new master cylinder Saturday w/ my grandson. He took the old one off and bled the wheel cylinders, all I had to do was sit in the seat and pump the brakes

















Also changed the rear diff/trans/OD fluids.
