The caption reads 黄浦江上的车客渡轮. For those of you, whose Chinese is a little rusty, it translates as Huangpu River. The picture was taken in 1949.

That is a US flagged ship those automobiles are on. Were they being shipped out of China because of Mao's success in the revolution?

About the picture in post #38:
The car in the back is a 1936, but the car in the front is harder to identify. Is it mayby a custom body by Graber? It looks like a junior car with the hood trim you'd think 1938 but the front fender doesn't look like a Packard at all. The sloping beltline in the back makes me think it might be a Graber bodied car.
