Starter drive (Bendix) could be bad. Just had to replace mine on a otherwise perfectly good starter. Motor ran, but did not engage.

Try spritzing the Bendix with a healthy amount of solvent like brake or carb cleaner and try again. It may only be gumed up. Ask me how I know....

Boy, Kind of a long ordeal your going through there. If you find the bendix to be bad, I should have new or rebuilts in stock. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
