Yes FTP is File Transfer Protocol. It is really the only way to publish or move a large volume of files up to a web-server efficiently.

Pat, I will send you the instructions for my FTP server, you will just need to make sure you have a FTP client on your end. Free ones can be downloaded depending on your OS.

I'm confused. At this moment, Recent Photos, at right, shows three samples with filenames that do not contain complete info - two of them, only the part number. Nobody asked about those, previously, but here's the detail available from the parts book:

463152
55-56, Gr. 31.4742 = Fabric Upholstering - Headlining
5582
Set 69
Light Tan

463470
55-56, Gr. 31.4744 = Fabric Top Material
5588
Set 93
White with Green Backing

463651
55-56, Gr. 31.4744 = Fabric Top Material
5588
Set 96
White with Red Backing

Brian,

The recent photos panel will only display a partial title if the title is too long. But when viewed, it should display the entire title.

Also it may just be more efficient (if it's ok with you) to just make any edits directly as you see fit, as you have the permissions to do that in the Photo Archive. It will prevent the middle man (me) from fat fingering anything.

Kev -

Yes, I can see where long filenames would need to be abridged when on-screen displaly space is limited (an accepted practice), but that's not the case with the three examples from above.

I went ahead and edited:

463152_Set??_Cloth_Headlining_Light-Tan

...to...

5582_Set-69_Cloth_Headlining_Light-Tan_463152

However, further investigation revealed that 463470 and 463651 are actually DUPLICATES of previously existing entries:

5588_Set-93_Top-Material_White-w-Green_463470

...and...

5588_Set-96_Top_Material_White%2FW-Red_463651

I'm not sure whether the more recent images, simply labeled as 463470 and 463651, are stray files that mistakenly found their way into the upload, and need to be deleted, but I can't do that.

EDIT (2/13/11) - After further investigation, I now realize that these two images are actually the reverse side of the two-sided fabric top materials as used on '55 Caribbeans and should be retained. A similar situation exists with 6487002 and 6487003 as used on '56 Caribbean convertibles. These images should be retained, but need some further identification.

Next, notice the odd character string, White%2FW-Red, in the color description of the last entry (for 463561). A quick check of a few gallery pages showed additional typos on several titles for these cards. However, I found one file:

5622-5642-5647-5662-5667-5672A-5677A_Set-12-22-32-42-52_Imitation_Leather_Sidewall_Dark-Blue_Hair_Ce

...which appears to be truncated, lacking the last several characters, "ll_6481117". I don't know whether this simply got cut-off at some point or field length is insufficient for the image title.

IMHO, the original editors for this project would be in a better position to review the online results, as their time permits, to spot anomalies and make corrections, as needed.

Kevin

This evening I sent two batches of files via ftp; one of 37 files and a second batch pf 13. The second batch has been erased from my machine or otherwise become invisible. Looking at the ftp site it doesn't appear they all got these.

I'm calling it quits for tonight. I go in tomorrow for possible eye surgery, so will be off-line for a bit.

Please brighten my day by telling me what I sent got to you....

Pat, I am only seeing 25 files that were uploaded. Not sure were the other files went to. Is it possible you may have just accidentally moved them to another folder on your computer?

Here are the files I got:

If Pat has lost files and is out of commission for a while, I will redo his missing files for him. As for naming conventions, I am going with accepted museum collections practice.

Not having access to edit within the website, someone will need to figure how they want to organize this. All of the info is here in the file title to make it relatively easy.

I do not have access to a parts book unless it is here someplace and it is where it hasn't occurred to me to look.

Stephen,

The Parts Lists (aka Parts Books) are here on the website. You would need to probably look in two of them. The 48-54 volume, and the 55-56 volume.

All the Parts Lists can be found here:

https://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/article/view.category.php?51

You probably don't need the entire book, just the relevant section. I am sure Brian (BH) can point the way for you.

Sorry, guess I had a "short circuit between the headphones" as they used to say when my father was an Air Corps aviation cadet describing pilot error. Don't know why I missed it.
