Hi everyone,

I've recently found a 1932 Packard Standard Eight 902 Club Sedan located in Spain since new.

I'd like to share with you my question about the identification of this car. I wonder why the engine number and chassis numer does not correspond to the published information for a 1932 Packard 902 Standard Eight, and it fits with a 1930 Packard 726 / 733 Standard Eight car.

Data:
Chassis number: 281455
Engine number: 281876
No other data in the car.

I'am sure that I'll get an anser it this forum; thanks in advance!

I can't wait for the counter arguments on this one.

By no further information I assume you mean there is no VIN plate.

It has the knee action shocks, but I can't see if they have the ride control and the body is definitely 32 as are the fenders, bumpers, etcetera.

That car is a Canadian build and who knows what they were doing about those numbers.

Let's suppose the car started out as a ninth series prototype on a seventh series chassis. Supposedly the experimental inline twelve was re-engined and shipped overseas. Packard used the Canadian facility to take advantage of the favorable duties. How many of the seventh series parts are interchangeable? Not a lot. We did prototype conversions of engineering cars and the cars were gutted and all the parts replaced. I never understood the accounting logic because it would have been much cheaper to scrap the stuff. Can the knee action shocks be installed on a seven series chassis? Yes, but the chassis needs to be modified because of the Bijur. The photographic record is loaded with period made cosmetic upgrades from one series to the next, but the upgrades for a prototype will show all over the place. Virtually every part on the car was changed from the seventh to the ninth series closed bodies. Anyway, export models were going through Canada and if the car started out as a prototype build that also is a good place to send it for conversion. And were left hand drive cars going through Canada? Yes.

Hi Tim.

I'd like to confirm that the car has no VIN plate.

Some photos added.

Headlamps have been changes with french Marchal headlamps, something common in the thirties in Spain.

Carburator and intake line also changed

That is an early 32, and if you are lucky, it still has the four speed trans with gear whine that imitates the Caddy 16. Too bad they broke the steering hub shell, but a skilled craftsman can fix that.
