I would like to know if there is any interest in joining me in fabricating the “lower” part of the Cradle & Belt assembly, Packard part No: 335365, for 1600-1-1A-1D-2-1700-1-1A-2. If you’re like me, I have two cradles, my original and one I acquired from a salvage yard. Both have rusted out lower portions, the front and rear lips are almost gone (see picture of the better of the two). This causes the flat bottom to bow and the fenders not to align correctly. I have also located other cradles and they all seem to have the same issue, can’t tell by a picture how bad it is.

I have modeled the part (see picture) and sent it to a manufacturer, and they came back with a quote. The part will be made in 5 sections and welded in 4 places to produce the final item (If interested in the placement of welds, PM me I can provide a picture). If I can get at least 10 orders (PM me if interested), the price will be under $500 each. For 20 pieces, the price lowers to under $300 each.

Since I have measured using ruler and digital calipers, averaged the dimensions of height, width and hole locations from the two not so perfect pieces I have, I’m trying to verify my measurements. If anyone has a print of this, I would like to make arrangements to borrow it so I can verify dimensions. I would also like to have a plastic model printed up (the manufacture offered to print one up but it was way to expensive) but I have no 3D printer before any metal forming starts. Can anyone help? I think it will have to printed in several sections for it requires a big 3D printer (L x W x H, 21,57” x 3.875” x 13.875”). I can provide 3D models of the sections.

I know I could just acquire strips and flat pieces of 16 GA metal and started cutting and welding, to repair it. I just thought it would be better, less work, if the whole section could be replaced to provide better support for the fenders and front of the car. I guess if there is no interest, I will have to resort to this method and do the best I can.

I don't need one (don't have the subject model, and mine are in good enough shape) but that is a decent price for the quality of work in the model.

Well done.

Good luck getting 10 orders...
In the off chance you don't, I'm pretty sure I have a rust free one you can have, not including shipping, for a donation to the Jagkard fund.

Alright since it seems I can't even give this away, I will offer it for the bargain basement price of $2,500 which is half the amount of money you would be fronting to have a run of 10 of the lower portion as depicted. Plus shipping and handling...this offer only good till midnight tonite....

That does look a lot better than the two I have. It also looks like there is no interest to have new ones made, oh well, I tried.

I’ll pm you to get a reasonable price.
