Can Rustoleum Black Metal Paint be used under the hood?

Does anyone happen to know if Rustoleum Black Metal Paint can be used under the hood of a car? I didn't see from the can whether it can stand up to the heat. I was thinking about using it on some of the components like the air filter. I'd be interested in other products that might work. Thanks Frank

The heat rated paint is very obviously identified on the can; I think that paint is for surfaces that get hot. My air cleaner never gets that hot, so I suspect it would be okay.

That being said, heat rated paint isn't much more money. Here's a can that is $6.50 rated for 1200F.

Rustolium works fine on things like horns, air cleaners, etc. You will find it has a brown black appearance in strong sun light.

Frank-

You may want a ground strap for your battery, looks like you have a standard cable. NAPA sells them, flat woven type; 4 gauge. Your 6 volt system would appreciate a good, positive ground. Plus it looks a little more authentic.

Napa Ground Strap $15

I also noticed the original color of your car was green and it is now black. Same with my car. Did you make that decision, or was it a previous owner?

I wanna know why the HELL are you still running 6 volts? How dare you use such an antiquated theory? Don't you know it just wont work in the 21st century? Oh wait, have I been partaking in too much drinky drink?

Cause the car is designed to run on 6 volts...and can you pass the bottle of drinky drink over here? No backwash, please.

Thanks for the information and suggestion on the battery ground. I've only had this car for 2 months. It must have been painted years ago. When I get more time, I'm gonna try to do more research on it. Thanks for the link on your car, it's great to see it stay in the family - Frank

No problem, good looking car Frank. My aunt/uncle live less than 7 miles from you in South Omaha. I should stop by and see your car next time I'm in town.

No matter what black paint you use for underhood, just make sure to throughly degrease, and remove any loose rust from the parts before painting, or you will end up having to do it again in the near future.
