Flamingo color code is "O". As in the letter O.

PackardV8, I'm curious, where did you find that information recorded? And also interested to know if they continued prior practice and used that code for more than 1 color? Thanks, any info appreciated.

I did post the bolts with the color on them a number of years ago. I will try and dig up the fender skirt (after I dig out of the snow) and get a photo. I don't know for sure if I have a picture of the car itself.

I have read that Flamingo is paint code "O". It must have been in the PAC Cormorant or Newsletter. I would bet the Cormorant as it is more likely to contain that information. There was a caravan of Packards pictured somewhere (in the midwest??) and one of the cars was a Flamingo hardtop. I think it might have been an Executive.

For Owen: The following link is where we discussed the "O" sometime ago at AACA. I believe the first time i ever heard of it was at Classicar.com some 10-12 years ago and either BH or Joel or RB had brought it up there.

The Packard Cormorant #125 (Winter 2006) has an article on the history of the Flamingo paint titled "Pretty in Pink" along with a color photo. Flamingo was always used in combination with Dover White on the roof. (The "MO" paint code.) Several cars are listed:

#5642-6120 in California, in very good condition.
#5677A-1766 in Illinois, which has been scrapped.
#5677A-1874 in Tennessee, in very good condition.
#5677A-1999 in Ohio, in fair condition.
#5677A-2015 in Illinois, in excellent condition.
#5682-4447 in California, in fair condition.
#5687-4046 in California, condition unknown.

Merci, PackardV8! Thanks for leading me out of the woods. I couldn't open the dealer letter, but its existance certainly clinches the case. The only questions that I have remaining are, whether they used the paint code "O" for any non-stock color, or just for the Flamingo, and if there were others, what were they?

I guess we can nick-name the Flamingo cars 'MOes'!

We could call them OMs - a peaceful Packard.
Aah, peace and calm --------------- or is that piece and calm?

About ten years ago I bought a 56 Patrician painted Danube blue over Adriatic blue. A little later I was talking to an ex Packard employee who worked in the "special" paint shop. I asked him why the VIN plate was blank for the paint code. He said the only cars with blank paint codes were either painted non-standard colors or were painted standard colors (as was mine) in the "special" paint shop. The latter were either show cars or were intended for senior Packard executives. I always surmised that mine was a show car as the build sheet said "shipped to New York City for the Sales Department".
