Question on my '37 115c intake manifold. What's the little bracket? What's missing from it, because something is loose. Is it where the heat riser to the carter automatic choke gets it's heat?

Good question. My 115C has this fitting on the intake manifold. Mine has a baffle covering the fitting that is open on one side to the atmosphere. I never thought about it, until now.

Does it have to do with a mechanism (flapper valve) that allows exhaust gases to warm up the intake manifold like the later straight eights have? It's roughly in the right place, but no shaft hanging out.

Edit: Nevermind, i see now i was looking at it wrong and that's too close to the carb flange and the heat flapper valve should be in the exhaust manifold.

Is it threaded? Could it be a vacuum port for something?

No, at least I don't think so. On the exhaust manifold there is a flapper valve with a weight on one side and a bi-metallic spring on the other.

JW- do you have the carter carb on your car? If so, could you send me some pictures of the line for the choke, and also vacuum line routing? Thanks a bunch!

Ken, my 115C is equipped with a Stromberg carburetor. I can still send photos if you like.

115c's where originally equiped with Chandler Groves carburetors. What you see is the breather hole for the automatic choke. It should have a small screen in that holder.
