Proving Grounds: First Wedding

I received an e-mail from Sue Tolonen tonight that yesterday we had the first wedding at the PPG. An abbeviated version follows.

"Attached are some of the photos that were taken by me at the first wedding ceremony at the Proving Grounds on Saturday, August 18th. The weather cooperated very nicely and the bride was very happy with the beauty of the grounds as a backdrop to her wedding pictures. She is particularly fond of the gates.

The Lodge garage was transformed very nicely with some elegant touches by the bride and her planner. The bride, Jamie Pioletti, still wanted the look of the rustic garage but yet some elegance. The groom's name is Mike Datema (and also Jamie's new last name). Jamie's mother is JoAnn Pioletti who is a member of the Kiwanis Daybreakers here in Shelby. [edit: the Kiwanis Daybreakers donated the PPG flagpole several years ago.]

The bride and her parents arrived in the 1948 Packard that they rented.

Jamie had planned for 100 guests to attend their ceremony - 100 chairs were rented. However, as you can see from one of the photos, it was "standing room only". There had to be at least 150 guests. Folks were standing on both sides of the room."

As we receive more donations we are able to make more renovations at the PPG. These renovations make it more marketable to rent out the property for functions such as this. We hope this is the start of a snowball effect.
