I think the automobile as well as other (boats) items are female because of the time, effort and money spent are near equal to the "courting" process. Of course, it doesn't mean that after all the primping and cooing that the next time you take her out she won't backfire loudly and drop a load of oil on the road.

That raises the other important question: is she a lady?
Packards clearly started life destined to be ladies, but you never seem to get 100% (except in your imagination....).

Yeah, and ya gotta watchout. Get any of them fixed up and looking too good and someone will try to take them away from u. And if noone tries, then they'll go looking for someone to take them away from u. They're all pretty good at accomplishing that too. Gufwah ha ha ha ha ha ha.
