My Maroon 47 Super Custom Clipper has an electric antenna not vacuum. So here are a few more pictures.

Who put the electric antenna on it and where did it come from?

I believe the 51-4 6v electric antennas will fit in place of the vacuum units although the lower support and brace might have to be massaged a bit. The one thing to verify would be the black bakelite piece used on the electric is the same size or at least large enough to cover the hole in fender.

The issue would be what to do with the switch. It could go on a bracket below the dash as was done with several dealer installed Packard accessories and the vacuum antenna valves. Doing that and it could be removed if the next owner desired. For a permanent install, a hole could be drilled in the dash in the mostly vacant area near the ign switch.

Finding an appropriate looking knob that would fit the electric switch might be harder than mounting the assembly. I don't think the vacuum antenna knob will easily mount on the standard Packard electric antenna switch but maybe one of Yesterdays Radio repro knobs would or the switch could be worked to accept one.

Here's a picture of the switch, not sure when it was installed.

Some information came to light today on the 22-23 series?? or at least the 49 vacuum antenna setup. It is slightly different than the 47.

Instead of vacuum source being directly off the manifold as it appears to be in 47, it seems in later cars they used the same vacuum source for the antenna as was used for the windshield wiper motor.

There was a tee added in the short hose just before the motor. From that tee a hose went over and into the end firewall grommet along with the two tubes which exit to antenna. The 49 grommet has 3 vacuum tube holes on the top similar to 47's two. There is a 4th hole for the antenna lead in wire on the bottom of the grommet.

I am guess in this old 47 Super Clipper that the knob that I am pointing at is the Vacuum Control for the Antenna.
