I guess that NOS element is from the days when packaging cost less than the product. Supposedly a lot of brake pads cost less than the box they come in. So when you buy something in a bubble pack, the package is a huge cost factor.

You got me thinking on this one. Check McMaster-Carr. They show rubber coated stranded electrical wire used for appliances they say is very flexible. They call it 302F. That might work.
