Pencil exhaust tip

Just a curiosity? I had this discussion with the exhaust pipe guy and he said they didn't offer this as a factory option. I saw pics of another '49 2dr fastback and it has the same exhaust tip. Mine had one and was very well secured with tackweld and solder. Not what you'd expect from an owner JC whitney dress-up add-on. The 23 series customs' had the "vacuum cleaner" nozzle tips as factory options, but the pencil doesn't show in the '54 parts list - but we know that's not comprehensive for 2 drs. Most of the old pictures just show the front ends and there just aren't that many original 2 dr photos. The picture book I got shows a custom with the "vacuum cleaner" nozzle that's in the parts list. What I'm familiar with in the era where the after market set screw type dress-up tips.
Was the chrome pencil tip just a period dress-up piece that most everybody added or a real factory option?
