Thanks Dan Ill give them a call tomorrow. Do you know the likeliness of this being a Packard distributor? The weather has been to bad to pull the one off my spare L8 and I have no idea what the one for the V8 looks like

Scratch that, the chard didn't show up at first. so going by the numbers this one fits a 49-52 L8 thanks so much. Luckily I have a 52 :D. What changed after 52 to where the distributor would not fit the 53-54 L8s?

Next question is are reproduction parts available for it? Such as the distributor cap.

What am I missing here? I don't see how that distributor could be driven by the Packard engine with the female hex drive at the distributor shaft end. Perhaps an adapter was a required part of the setup that engaged the blade drive in the Packard engine and terminated in a male hex drive?

I was wondering the same thing. I thought the Packards used a blade style oil pump drive but I didn't have one in front of me. It is not a complete system though, of one I am missing the drive gear and who knows what else.

The drive gear is on the oil pump, driven by a gear on the camshaft. Yes, they had a blade-type drive for the distributor, fitted into the oil pump gear head.

Thanks for the info Owen. Do you have a guess as to why they have several different models during the 49-52 model years like some cover 49-50 others 49-52 and the last one is only 53-54? did Packard use different oil pumps or drive gears?
