what is the correct paint color for a 1953 Packard Super 8 engine in a long wheelbase car? The engine currently is painted grey.

I believe that is correct. Gray from 22nd thru 54th series -- except for the 54 359 which was bronze. There is some question over whether some of the 22-23 series cars might have had green on the big 356 engine. Don't remember hearing that there was anything different done on LWB cars.

One of the problems with engine paint color is some vendors are selling the Packard green paint and noting it is for many different years of inline 8's -- some after it was stopped being used by the factory. Many of the later engines that should be gray have been painted green during a restoration because of the notation.
