I am trying to purchase a spare 11" 1940 Super 8, 356 clutch pressure plate from a seller on ebay. After my inquiry, here is his response:

"I have a total of three 11" pressure plates. One of them is marked "HD" for heavy duty. Shipping would be $14.53

I do not have a 1940 Super here on site to compare them to.

I do have a known clutch from a 1947 Custom Eight with a 356 and all of these 11" pressure plates I have match that one making the flywheel Packard part number 341477. The 1940 Super also used flywheel number 341477 so these pressure plates may fit that model as well but I am not able to confirm 100%.

Please let me know if there is anything that you know of can I can check to verify to see if I have one that you need?"

If anyone can help shed some light on this, it would be appreciated.

There is another gotcha with replacing 40 clutch assys that is detailed in these articles. Hard to say what might have happened over 70 years but might explain the markings. Someone else will have to say if it is a difference that might cause issues with getting the spare you found.
