Does anybody know what the ohms should be for the sending unit or gas gauge on 53 clipper deluxe replaced sending unit with aftermarket and its reading backwards

The 51-6 sender uses the pre 86 Ford - Mopar resistance range and typical ohm readings are around 75 at the empty end and around 10 at the full end. It sounds as if you might have a GM configured sender where 0 ohms is at the empty end.

If you continue to have problems, some of the universals can be mechanically reversed or if not, Kanter has reproduction senders -- but they are more expensive than some universal types.
