There is a difference on 36. A clip holds spring. Hard to get off.

No way lock can come out front with lock cover.

Still figuring that move..

There is a pin just inside clip groove . that must hold shaft

The pin is right behind chrome ring in picture

Another q.

Temp sending unit..who repairs...and is there an up dated one..

The way I see it the whole gauge needs to be repaired.

I am using one on right..and that outside wound wire is broken.

Be nice if there was an adapter. To cut and replace.

Yes, they are repaired/serviced as a unit. You'll find several folks advertising in Hemmings who do this work; among them I can recommend Wolf Instruments. You'll find Wolf mentioned regularly here.

Agree with Dave to go with Wolf or one of the other professionals as I expect a temp gauge for that era senior Packard may be expensive and not that readily available if something goes amiss during a repair attempt. If you do want to try yourself look thru this how to article. The procedure is the same and has been done successfully on other Packard gauges.http://www.ply33.com/Repair/tempgauge

I can recommend Wolf (without "e", I'll just call it fat finger syndrome )from experience. Great job, reasonable prices!
