We are just starting a rebuild on my friend's '55 Patrician.
I am looking ahead to wanting to install the crankshaft vibration damper, and am wondering about the "installer J-5992-3, and spacer, J-5992-4."
I want to place it correctly against the "crankshaft oil slinger," etc., without overtorqueing.

How should we solve this? Is there a source for the tool, or dimensions for a copy?

Thanks for any time you spend on this.

Rick

The book shows to put timing cover on half way. Over shaft of damper

But I have had no problems putting timing cover on.not tighten . Then using long bolt turn it on

If using rope seal best to get it started
Like Packard shows. I am using the updated neoprene one.. So I lube it up with timing cover on loose so it can center..

Pulling it off get behind the damper on the part that has the rubber..center.

Again long bolt and screw it.off..

Put the key in ..leave little over crankshaft to make it easier to line up.

I think the bolt is 3/4-16..thread..

Oil slinger..put timing chain on. The slinger. It lines up with key. You won't over tighten..torque 150 lbs

Look on here for shop manual..it will show you..if h..posts. He will have diagrams.

But just search this site Kevin has it easy to look things up.

The real benefit of the J-5992 is for removing the damper as it reaches around to the back half so as not to stress the rubber.

When I got mine, it was missing the center adapter J-5992-2. For removal I just backed out the retaining screw and let the screw assembly J-5992-3 push against it.

For installation, the spacer just makes the nut used to press on the damper accessible. The spacer J-5992-4 dimensions are 2 3/4" long, 1 3/4" OD, and 7/8" ID.
