I'm planning on honing my 1951 288 with a flex hone since I'm working on the valves. Cylinders measured 3.5". What size and grit? 3.5" 180?

Warning, this is not my area of expertise, just what I did.

Last year when I pulled my 327 apart I had one of the local engine builders have a look and measure up the bores. When I asked him about honing, he cautioned against honing because it's easy to make things worse instead of better. He suggested just scuffing up my cylinders to help the rings seat, so that's what I did.

Packard piston clearance is very low compared to most, you don't want to make your bores too big.
