Exhaust Systems - 356 vs. 327/288

Hey gang - alrighty, ordered a new exhaust from a reputable company up north for my 2302 (Super Deluxe Eight). Unfortunately, I received a configuration for a Custom Eight (which uses the four bolts to connect to the 356 manifold, as opposed to the two-screws used for the 288 and 327 setup). Obviously the exhaust pipe won't work with the flange, and the 356 used a 2.5" inlet at the muffler, as opposed to 2-1/4 for the 288 and 327.

My main questions are this:

- aside from the inlet diameter, are the mufflers more or less the same between the 288, 327, and 356, or were they different mufflers altogether on the 356?

- after cutting out my tailpipe section, it appears that what they sent and what I have (which is not the OE exhaust/muffler) do in fact line up. Same diameter pipe, too. My tail pipe is longer at the muffler outlet because a shorter than OE muffler was installed at some point. Would the three engines have used the same tail pipes?

Hoping to try to simplify any corrections that need to be made. I figure if the muffler is correct aside from the inlet, I can get that corrected here in town. The first run of exhaust needs to be redone for the right flange and and pipe diameter. If I don't have to send the tail pipe and muffler back, that will be a win. Thoughts on what to ask for? Thanks in advance.
