red tabs under package tray

Can anyone explain? On my 1949 Custom Eight Coupe, on each side of the car, there are two red tabs, about 2" long, coming down into the trunk from below the package tray. What are these red tabs for? Two photos of right side attached.

I am guessing those are ends of the headliner listings and were poked through those holes as an assembly aid to pull your longitudinal headliner taught during assembly.
