With as many folks as we have here on the website and each with unique opinions, perspectives, and ideas I think it time we had a few ground rules to keep things civil, and the forum topics on target.

RULES OF FORUM ETIQUETTE:

1) CAPS: For those that are new to online forums TYPING IN CAPS denotes shouting. If you are not the best typist, then it is better to type in all lower care than UPPERCASE.

2) Civility: Please be respectful of others and their opinions. No one likes a bully in person, and no one likes one here in the forums either. It is ok to disagree. Spirited debate is encouraged, but name calling and petty arguing will not be tolerated.

3) Broken Records: No one likes the same old stories or opinions rehashed every time someone asks a similar question. If you have something new to add great, otherwise with have already heard it.

4) Hijacking: Please don't take a forum off topic. We all do it to some degree, but it can quickly annoy the original poster who never gets an answer because folks are off chatting about something non-related on their thread. If you are reading a forum topic, and it reminds you of something off topic then start a new forum thread for that. This keep each topic neat and on target and makes things easier to find in a forum search later.

5) Personal Grudges: If you got an axe to grind with someone, please don't use the forums here to do it. It's just noise to the rest of us, so take it to another venue.

6) Vendors Comments: I encourage honest civil comments about experiences with Vendors good or bad. Everyone is quick to post when they have a bad experience, so please leave a post also when you have a good experience. Let's be fair and show due diligence when posting about Vendors. Just remember not every one bats a 1000, so Vendors should be rated on the aggregate, not one person's singular experience.

7) Whiners: Please don't be a whiner. No one likes a whiner, and I find the folks that whine the most, are the ones that contribute the least.

8) Community: This website and forum is about maintaining the history of Packard and building community of Packard Owners and enthusiasts. So please be part of that community constructively, not just someone who complains and takes.

9) Multi-Posting/Cross-Posting: Please do not post the same thread in multiple forums. If you are looking for a part or selling a part, then please don't post in the General Forum, Year Specific forum, and the For Sale forum. Pick the one that is the most applicable.

10) Purist vs. Modder's: If some one posts a question about how to fix or rebuild something (like the BTV), then obviously there are looking to preserve it, and are not asking to upgrade, replace, reengineer it. So please let the folks that can answer their question about fixing it help them, without the modification sidebars hijacking the thread. Nothing turns a new Member away faster than bickering folks. Also, along those same lines, if someone comes posts a question about modern conversions, replacements, upgrades, etc, then let the folks that can answers those questions do so with out berating the Gentlemen about keeping it original. Equal time folks, equal time.

I have tried to be pretty hands off and let the forums be self moderating. Hopefully with these ground rules in place we can continue this without any formal moderating. Remember Packards were automobiles built by Gentlemen for Gentlemen. So lets all try to live up to that heritage.

Thanks,
