Food for thought, There is a complete 1934 385 available here in Arizona. It has had all required machine work, and ready to be reassembled. A very magnificent engine!

I agree. The only reason why the straight eight went out of favor was low hood lines and short front ends. Two design features that I don't find attractive at all. (save for the Studebaker C/K cars)

Me, I love the straight eights, and I plan on taking that old 356 to the highest level I can.

As for "If Packard had built a car for the 1935 Grand Prix season..."


Well, that's exactly what I'm aiming for with my car:




Since it will be titled as a 1936 Packard Super Eight, I guess I'll be gunning for the '36 GP season..

that it's very important to line hone the block/crank before assembly.

I figured with 9 main bearings and Packard's precision machining that line boring wouldn't be necessary?

If you could send me/ PM some details I might be interested - although the cost of arranging pickup and freight to Australia is likely to be prohibitive - especially when this is the sort of work that my family does already...
