From the 1956 specifications in the Service Counselor, the available ratios, Clipper or Packard, were 2.87, 3.07, 3.31, 3.54 and 4.09. No mention of the Executive.

Curiously, especially in light of the earlier suggestion that Packards were available with standard shift, it lists no available axle ratios for standard shift with or without overdrive for 5680 and 5688 chassis, at least that's how I read it. It appears that unless you ordered a special ratio, you got 3.54 with 3-speed standard, 4.09 with overdrive, and 3.54 with Ultramatic. There is a TSB which addresses a high speed vibration in some Packard models and recommends that customers who complained should have their rear axle ratio changed to 3.07.

For years I had an NOS Clipper Twin Traction carrier in 2.87, couldn't give it away.

According to some 1955 (Jan 5, 1955) press releases the following were the rear axle ratios with Ultramatic:
3.54 to 1 - Patrician
3.23 to 1 - 400
3.23 to 1 - Clipper
3.07 to 1 - Clipper

Hope this is of some use.

John
