Gents,

I've checked the fuel line routing and I've got good clearance along the line's path and at no point does the line touch the block/engine despite the appearance of such from my pics.

I talked to an old fellow today who mentioned that when he was younger, a road grading crew here in Tucson somehow fashioned a device in which the grader's fuel lines got routed through a icebox prior to delivery to the carb. Not sure if he was pulling my leg?

Anyway, with the chemistry of fuels changing over the years, maybe when it gets to the 100 plus thresholds that are common here, it just too dang hot! I also got to thinking that since I also put one of those really neat insulation pads under the hood (sold as a Packard project item) where is all that heat supposed to go?

well, I think that the heat is intended to flow down and back under the floor of the car and out with the inrush of air, propelled by the fan as the car moves down the road. Dosen't help if you are stuck in traffic or in a parade, or worse yet, the Woodward Dream Cruise.
I have heard of guys putting a small amount of Deisel fuel in their tank to offset some of modern fuel's issues with heat, but this was for mostly pre-war cars with much lower compression ratios than the '55 V-8.

Maybe try a test run with the hood removed. Maybe block off the heat passages thru the intake manifold. Maybe reroute the fuel line ala Carib to get more fan cooling.
