You can get a rough idea what things cost in the fifties by multiplying by 20.

In other words the $5000 Caribbean would cost $100,000 in today's money, the $1800 Ford would cost $36,000, and the $15,000 split level in the suburbs $300,000. And the 22 cent gallon of gas, $4.40.

This is because the government has stolen 95 cents out of every dollar through inflation.

Fascinating!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I note that the accessory prices are largely for small stuff, chatchky (how do you spell it?).

What I'd like is the MSRP for what? The options? Power windows, A/C, Pushbutton Ultramatic, --- all the stuff on brian Harpsts List of 1956 Regular Production Options...

Not that the rest of it isn't fascinating.

We all know that then, as frequently now, MSRP is largely a legal fiction (or is it an illegal fiction?). Anyhow, it seems to me it's a good marking point. Clearly the factory set/encouraged various price points. It's a nice place to start the discussion.....

patgreen, right just the listing and prices for accessories, not equipment. Also note that some of the accessories go back to the 22nd series. Something for everyone.
