I'd like to have one in a solid dark color but I like strange things to each his own sure it would be the only one at a event also not many thieves would want to steal it

I'm a simple guy, I like things to be in black and white:

I guess they wanted 4 headlights to match the 4 tailfins lol.

Can someone photoshop one in gold metalflake? I think it would look smashing.

By the way the fact book says they offered a 4 door sedan only in 1957. Is this correct?

If they lost the extra set of fins, I think the rear would look very respectable. If anyone has a mind to photoshop this deletion on the Request for the gold metal flake paint job, it would be interesting to see.

The quad headlights look awfully tacked on, as noted. I don't see a way around that bulbous look. They look especially bad when unrestored, as the bulges seem to weather at a different rate than the fender. The two-tone job with the accented bulges in the contrasting blue color looks positively cross-eyed!

One thing about these cars and the Studes that they were knocked off from, I do appreciate the smaller dimensions, especially with the kind of power they made. Were there any 6 cylinder models produced, or were the all brawny V8s of Packard or Studebaker heritage?

I actually like the added on tail fins. Of course, I just happen to like fins on cars!

And no, no 6cly cars, they were all 289's for both '57 and '58. '57 got you a supercharged car across the board, but in '58 the only supercharged car was the Packard Hawk. Of course, you can easily put a supercharger on any of the '58 models..

To each his own! They are, um, unique. Not entirely though. I believe Dodge/Desoto had something similar.

To answer my own question about the 6 cylinder cars... none of the Packards had the 6, and interestingly only the Studebaker Scotsman and Champion, and the Silver Hawk are listed as 6 cylinder cars, the Silver Hawk also available with the V8 option.

This is according to Carnut, and may or may not be accurate. But it looks like Studebaker went for V8s in a big way in those years, running somewhat counter to their econocar image.

It never ceases to amaze me that S-P did such a great styling job on the 57 Packard, and on very short notice. What amazes me more is the truly terrible job they did on the 58s.
