Hi All,

Did the 1951 cars with carpeting come with loop or cut pile?
I can't make it out from the pictures and brochures.
Thanks,

I don't know about 1951 but if Packard in 51 followed prior and later years, the senior cars had different carpet than the juniors. In 50 and back some years the seniors had very fine wool, trade name "Mosstread" and the juniors had something resembling mohair. If I had to guess, I'd say 51 and up had loop pile.

What model were you inquiring about? There are enough cars around with original interiors that the answer should be easy enough to establish.

Just make sure you replace the windlacing with those little "dingleberries" and do tiger skin on the seats, that way it looks like Dave Czir's '56 400.

And make sure you play this with a 10,000 watt stereo while you cruise: Big Pimpin'

But seriously, Owen, mine is a '51 200 Deluxe but I've got what looks like short cut pile in the back and what's left of the front. Since dealers seemed to mix and match anything the customer wanted, I was curious about the Patrician.

Also, just what kind of door panels came with my model? I've seen pictures here and on cars on e-bay that clearly don't have the "fabric-less" pressed patterned particle board that mine does? As a matter of fact even the '51 brochure shows the base 200 as having wide pleated vinyl on the lower half of the doors. It seems odd that moving up gets you less.

When did Packard stop using the "hogshair" and rubber combination matting like that which came with my '47 Super Clipper? The Mosstread carpeting used on the 46-50 Customs is the finest carpet material I have ever seen on any car!

"Dingleberries" God, that's a "slap from the past"!

Tiger skin seat covers always make me think of Tony Montana's '63 Cadillac convertible in "Scarface".
