Woodlights look great on this 745, especially the fender lights.

Are the lights at the ends of the front bumper original?

Bumper with bumper lights was a period non-factory accessory, just as the Woodlites were. Or at least I'm not aware that Woodlite accessories were ever listed in a Packard accessory listing. They are not listed in the Packard accessory list of March 1929. So "are they original?"; I guess in the strictest and traditional sense of the word, no, unless Packard fitted them for a trade show exhibit car or the like and you have documentation to that effect.

Here's a couple of others, 7-45 by Waterhouse and an L-29. The Waterhouse was photographed at the Asheville NC PAC National in 1993?

I saw them listed in the '31 Packard accessories brochure. Wasn't sure if they were listed in the '29 brochure.

Any one have them on their car? I'm curious if they worked better than the stock headlight, or just look cool....

Thanks for the reference to the later accessory list, it's a dull day you don't learn something new. Never been in a car with Woodlites at night or seen one on the road, and I suspect few if any of them are ever driven at night, much less driven at all except on and off a trailer. But it's hard to believe they could come even close to the OEM headlights for road illumination. But they sure do draw attention. But if Packard accepted them as accessories, it's hard to believe they would have been inadequate for the intended purpose. Wonder what CP the bulbs were, and what the configuration of the reflector was?

I saw a set of Woodlights on Ebay about a year ago. They had a $3000 starting bid. No fender lights, only two headlights.

They had one taken apart, it had a 32 CP bulb, with a elliptical shaped reflector.

Based on the reflector and lens design they must have projected a long narrow beam instead of the wide shorter beam from the standard lights.

Hopefully someone will that has driven at night with them will chime in.

Those Waterhouse bodies on Packard's look fantastic!

I like the way the designers dropped the molding line towards the rear of the car and accentuated the hood length. Now if you add in a "V" windshield it's perfect....

If anyone has Dykes Encyclopedia of Gasoline Engines (It's actualy a general automotive service manual) ca. 1920's it should have an internal schematic of the reflectors and bub arrangement for the Woods.

Yes, i've often wondered about that. The V's are much more asthestic. Seems like some cars of the 20's thru 40's had V windshields and others didn't. Anyone ever do a study on this???

The Woodlites are definitely in the 1932 accessory catalog, as is a Pilot Ray light.
Also...
My original 1929 approved accessory catalog shows the "Packard Bright Bumper," which looks exactly like the one in the above photo. "This bumper incorporates a 32-candle light at each end of the 3-inch tubular bar. The lights ar very effective but non-blinding, giving excellent illumination directly on the road. Lights well recessed and protected in bumper."
