Thanks guys for all of the good info. Wish I'd seen this before I bought a high priced cardboard box for my 39....Anyway, there were several problems with the 51. First was the dirt and crud on the slides, which was cured with the Lubriplate and some elbow grease. The real problem was the two large metal springs, one on the bottom of the drawer and the other on the frame of the dash. They meet as you close or open the drawer and create enough friction to prevent the glove box from opening accidently. One of my was bent. So a little work with a needle nose pliers and some more Lubriplate solved the problem. Thanks again. I also appreciated the photo of the glove box - I see I'm missing some rubber bumpers at the back of the box. I picked up a 6 pack bag of them at Napa yesterday for the 39 for a few bucks. Much cheaper than buying them one at a time! I'll put them on tonight.
