Steer Me In The Right Direction Please!

Hi all,

I hope your all keeping well.

Todays question is in relation to steering. My motor has gained some play in the Pitman Arm (the first rod coming from the steering box)and I need to adjust it. It is a frightening problem, the car becomes uncontrolable on rough surfaces.

What adjustment is available in order to tighten up the steering and keep me on the straight and level?

Thanks all and sorry for breaking your Presidents car!

Sl?n,

Pat.

Pat,I don't know if the 34 and 35 steering is the same but the 1935 Shop manual has some pretty good explanation of adjusting the steering.

If the White House had kept FDR's Packard 12 they wouldn't have these clearance problems.

The 11th Series (1934) Service Letters have very comprehensive instructions on steering gear adjustment.

If memory serves me, that 39 Twelve was the one that was accidently destroyed by a fire down in Cape May some 30 or so years ago.

Scanned the page for you. Repack or tighten the seal if lubricant is leaking into the headlight switch, and use gear oil in the box, not grease.
