Randy's suggestion is spot on & should be considered any time you are going to open trans up. The pin could be a breakdown waiting to happen.
My broken pin wasn't causing a problem & was discovered accidentally in the process of opening up the trans for something else. With retaining end broken, it was already partway out of position so would have only been a matter of time before it fell out completely & no gearshift. Being somewhat uptight, I used what McMaster calls a "thin flex top expanding hex" locknut in addition to the nylon patch instead of a regular nut. Downside to the locknut is they don't come individually like the bolt does. Attach file: (7.67 KB) (13.91 KB)
