Duane should be here any moment to tune the car...

We have a choice of plugs, as it turns out: AC 45xls or Champion RN14YC....

Anything to be concerned with here? I can't find beans on what heat range is involved; both appear to be same size....

Pat, what kind and type are in the car now? The main thing is the length of the thread (reach). Mid-year '55s and on used the long reach plugs. The Champion "N" type is the long reach type. Heat range? I am using Champion N-16Y in my '55 Clipper Super (320 cu. in.).

That's not entirely true.

For 55th Series, long reach plugs (N-8 or AG-5) are only applicable to Clipper Deluxe and Super (chassis 5540) - with the 320-cid engine - and only when equipped with the late production cast-dome cylinder heads - per SC Vol. 29, No. 7.

55th Series Clipper Custom (chassis 5560) and Seniors (chassis 5580) - all with the 352-cid mill - continued to use short reach plugs (H-10s).

All 56th Series cars used long reach (N-18).

I believe the subject vehicle is a '56 Patrician.

AC 45 XLS. "4" means 14 mm. "5" is heat range which is mid range (ranges run about 2 thru 8), very good for usual normal customary passenger car operation.

IF possible use the AC 45XLS. Why???? Welllllllllll. Just look at all of the confusion about OTHER brand (ANY other brand) of plugs. I am using the AC 45XLS in my 56 Executive.

Want to know what the XLS stands for too????

Now let me guess. Your mechanic is touting Champion, NGK, or LOg or Bosch or probably anything but AC.

Read thru the above link i posted. Then ask mechanic to decipher the number on the plug HE thinks it needs. Just like i did in the previous post.

Owen Dyneto uses the Autolite 65. So that is another good option. He posted in this link:

As noted, car is a 56 Patrician....

I run NGK BPR5EY plugs in my '56 Pat and haven't had any problems at all. I've used NGK in most of my cars over the years as they work well and are very reliable. John
