I need help identifying hopefully replacing a part. on the tail of the transmission is a ball stud that has an adjustable rod with bushing ends. I assume it is some type of vibration damper? or to help isolate torque from the drive shaft? the ball joint looking end has worn out and it keeps popping off the ball stud. any help?

thank you all.
Eric

A PM to flackmaster might be worth the time. Vendors probably still do the rebuilt originals but I think his repro works equally well. I believe the repros are stronger than originals and will fit several models.

If I understand what you are describing, and Howard's reply; then, it is a clutch anti-chatter rod. Packard may have a different name for it. It reduces clutch chatter, especially in reverse gear. It really smooths out the clutch and shifting operations.
