Anyone have any idea where these were used? The main bar is about 44 inches long

I believe they are group 15.997 on plate 32B and 20A

I don't think I have ever seen a short main bar. Doubt anyone would have cut one and rewelded the hex end on so wonder if it was something experimental. Even if something was tried, wheels would have to be awfully close together. The cycle car is the only thing I could think of offhand that might have used something that short.

They sure look like standard parts from the TL system, but I could be wrong.

Look also in the service manual, they look like the "levelizer bars" shown on page 8' figure 21, and page 10, figure 22, and page 11, figure 26, 27.

the bar on the cars are over 108 inches long these are 44 inches long they are shorter than the short torsion bar 15.997

Were the components just loose in a batch of parts or were they actually taken off something & you wound up with them? With that length & 56 components I can't help but think they were never on a production car but could have been for something experimental. Was there not a lot of changes in line for the 57 layout & some mention of a working independent rear? Maybe my imagination but the main bar looks to be less diameter than regular.

Upon review of all pictures I have of the various T-L varients including Allison's 1958, John Delorean's 1958 and a "1957" chassis built by someone, NONE of the main bars are short. Allison's two varients include an IRS and a DeDion style rear end.

These pix are a pretty good mystery!

One of the options under review for the 57 low line cars was a non interconnected torsion bar suspension. That way they could use the same basic suspension on the cheaper and more expensive cars, but do away with the leveler on the low line. The four short bars would have just been anchored in the center of the chassis.

I have both sides. It looks like they were cut off a frame with the regular rear bracket the arms are the same size as on a regular car
