2014 Concorso Santa Fe

Returned to Austin last week after spending 10 days in Santa Fe. While there had a reunion with my three brothers. We had not all been together since 2003. Also got to visit with other family members and friends. My trek to my hometown also involves doing volunteer work for the Concorso Santa Fe on Saturday and attending the show event on Sunday.

This is the fifth year for the Concorso and it is gaining in popularity and quality of vehicles. There were three Packards displayed this year. Margaret Dunning was featured along with her 1930 740 Roadster, John Groendyke brought his beautiful 1932 Deluxe Eight Dietrich Sport Phaeton, and the stunning 1938 Eight Cabriolet by Graber of Chris Andrews was there.

It is a wonderful time to be in Santa Fe and North Central New Mexico the last week of September. I encourage everyone to make plans to attend the 2015 Concorso.

I took several photos of the Packards and will post them in separate postings. Meanwhile, here is one of each.

Here are some more photos of the Graber bodied 38 Eight. I also found one when it was displayed at Pebble Beach in the Prewar Preservation class. It was also displayed after restoration. It has one of the most beautiful coach built bodies I have seen on any Packard.

I followed the restoration of the 38 Graber quite closely as it was done at Automotive Restorations here in NJ. It's a stunning car, but then again what Graber isn't? You can see some photos of the Graber during restoration at:

Thanks for the link. I was the Best of Show for Elegance. I had a chance to look under the trunk lid and there were still marks there where the lid had been formed. As we know Dutch Darrin did his Packards, starting in 1938-39 after returning from France, using the junior models. Probably because they were all metal and less expensive to buy. Graber may have chosen this Eight because of less import taxes and costs. This Graber must have been one of the last custom bodied cars made before the outbreak of WW-II. It is a very dark green. I first thought it to be black.
