Shelf life on that information shouldn't have an expiration. It was assembled with much effort by many whom banded together in prior forums dedicated to Packards. CraigH, a member here still maintains the 1956 Packard Panther site.

How "current" does the info have to be???? There MIGHT be some issue with modern day part numbers that have changed over the decades but that is not is a major hurdle.

e.g.: If ANY x-ref from ANY source indicates that a 50's Chevy distributor cap fits a 55/56 Packard V8 then any reference to it as "current info" or not or unkown becomes vacuous. One simply accepts the info, goes to auto parts store and asks for part. If only part number is given then any obsolete part numbers can be crossed into a modern part number using various resources or found on eBay.

Efforts relative to ANY collectibles requires some owner research that is more intense than just dialing a phone and reading a number from a plastic card. Such research/developement is not something that can be handed to a local garage UNLESS one is willing to pay on a TIME AND MATERIAL basis.

Collectibles are not for everyone.

There certainly is something to be said for being current. The X-ref is there because the original numbers do not work. Will we next need a "NEW" Xref to supplement the old X-ref?

The other thing that is important (at least from my perspective) is that the X-ref be as broad as possible. I though my car needed rear wheel bearings, which were not in the X-ref.

Please, as we make discoveries, add them to the list!

Pat, there could be some mistake. PackardInfo has no adder of the month or the like, BigKev isn't the person on duty but the person who needs our support. If you find a new replacement part please do not hesitate to add it to the parts x-reference if time permits. Thanks in advance.

Most of the website is setup to be "User Addable". So much like the Dealership List, the Bookshelf, Forums, Picture Archive and other sections, any logged in user can add a part to the Parts X-Ref here on the website as Gerd is showing above.

I suspect that those of you who come up with these Xrefs have no idea how beneficial that information is to those of us who (like me) are completely mechanically challenged!

Please add the details as they are discovered!
