Hi everyone, I'm writing from Poland, I'm finishing restoring a 53 Mayfair hard top, I'm looking for a used carburator for parts, mine is missing the metering rood and other details, thanks to anyone who can help me.

If you need a rebuild kit as well as the parts, call the Carburetor Shop. They have tons of stuff and can help you identify your carb.

My original top header bow on the back side, facing the rear of the car in the center of the bow is approx. 2-1/2 inches wide. The length of the bow is approx. 49-1/2 inches, I could be off a little on the length as a piece at the end is broken off.

Which carb do you have? There should be a number on the little brass triangle tag on the carb.

See if your local Napa can get the parts and save on the shipping.

I wonder if it could be applied "WET"? By wet I mean soaking the gasket to expand it, then putting it in place and lettng it dry out in situ. I did this for a sump gasket I replaced on my Packard, only gasket I could get at the time was old and had shrunk. A couple of soakings and I got it to return to its original length and useable again. Know this is a very different gasket but could be worth a try.

Jack,

I checked with Egge and the piston rings they have are .180 thick.https://egge.com/product/piston-ring-set-61/

They also told me they can make new 320 pistons, however they don't have any full sets in stock at this time. No surprise that they are not a very hot item.

I've never tried it but if you have the new style cap wonder if you could sort of make a gentle bend and twist in the gasket to elongate the hole to a more oval shape and starting on one side work it over the center piece and around. Doesn't look like the hole is very big and cork doesn't stretch but it must have been doable if a replacement gasket was available. If you have the old style cap with the dipstick then you would probably need to remove the dipstick. I couldn't tell if the center piece was pressed over the tab or spot welded in but maybe you could. If pressed and could be removed and reattached, maybe that is how it could be done.

If spot welded I doubt if the gasket was in position when the center piece was installed during mfg but guess it was possible. If making the hole more oval won't work and the gasket was installed later and is cemented in, I wonder if there was a slit in the old one and that is how it was done.

G'day chevyboy. not a name I'd expect to see on a Site dedicated to Packards.
irrespctive of that, to PackardInfo, but sorry I can't assist with your request.

However, I invite you to include your '53 Mayfair in PackardInfo's Packard Vehicle Registry.

I think you're our first Polish Forum Member.

That's a good addition Kev. I've been keeping a OneNote document with all the links to specific posts that I need to reference later, and their descriptions. I've had it going since I bought the Panama in 2020. It's been working well for me, but it'll be nice to keep it all contained on the website.
