From the auction: Offered here is the opportunity to acquire one of the truly great vintage Packards of the Veteran Era. This award winning, six-cylinder Packard Phaeton is one of 12 known survivors (in all body styles.) The Grundy roster of early Packards lists it as the 137 oldest and complete Packard known to exist. The car was once owned by Warner Brothers Studio and appeared in two scenes of the 1969 movie "The Wild Bunch" starring William Holden and Ernest Borgnine and the iconic movie "East of Eden" with James Dean. The current owner completed a frame-off restoration in 1985 and the speedometer shows only 187 miles since restoration. It has all of the correct gauges and accessories including the rare gas tank pump and proper patent leather spare tire covers.

Must be the economy as it hasn't gone up all that much unless that one was in rough condition. Believe I paid around $300 for mine in very good condition and that was quite a few years ago. Actually, kind of depressing when you think about it. Another retirement idea shot out of the water.

6. We wedged a 1x6 and raised the engine so that we could remove the front cradle.
7. New and old front motor mounts. 8. With the motor mount fixed, we removed the water pump to begin flushing the engine completely. I was happy to find a very intact distribution tube.

With the front motor mount bushing completely sagged, not only was I not able to get the front bolts off of my oil pan, but the engine dropped down to the point where one of the water pump bolts was resting on the motor mount cradle.

Henry,
I have none of your skills as a real mechanic, but as an inveterate wrench-bender I have found that the worst gremlins in the shop are rags, or in your case, a towel. Looking through a stack of old greasy rags and waste paper can produce surprising results when looking for parts--old and new--tools, etc. But be careful. Starting to sling stuff around in disgust can result in all those little precious pieces flying around the shop and rattling away all over the place (insert scream here). I once threw out a new fuel pump that was in a pile of rags and "junk." Bought another one before my Dad suggested I look in the trash barrel (He had set out a new pump for me and I'd piled all the crap on top of it, after which I "cleaned up.") Also, NEVER dump your trash barrel until the job is done. If it gets full, start filling another one. You may need to go prospecting again. Carry on, mate!

Yes, officer, I know that I was doing 58 in a 35mph zone. It was the unintended acceleration...
Oh, and you'd probably get better results with a Hickok 'black box!' Great video!

Not at the workshop today but phoned Burt Bros about the flywheel, pressure and clutch plates and learned they are ready to be picked up. That done, went to "Mal's Garage" and proceeded to spend two and half hours sanding back the right running board. On a hot and humid Sydney day not a real pleasant task. Still have to finish that side but as it's more than 3/4 done, another hour or so and both boards will then be ready to be re-coated with Rhino liner. Attach file: (33.98 KB) (33.01 KB)
