Beautiful automobile. If I recall, another Horch was selected as best of show recently. How did the Packards do this year?

The reason I enter my Packards in car shows is to share them with the public and to socialize with other exhibitors. It is nice to have the cars recognized and awarded a trophy, but this not a must for me. One of the clubs I belong to does not allow members' cars to win any awards. This policy is fine with me. Another reason I enter car shows is that it solves the parking problem.

Years ago, I was at a regional concours in California. The local TV station was covering the event and interviewing owners. One of the cars they chose to cover was a replica Cobra. The owner of a nearby real Cobra pointed this out to the interviewer, but the interviewer was not interested in covering the real thing. Sad.

Beautiful rendition. It certainly has a styling flair like many European autos of the day. Very nice.

Thanks for the 2-stroke Diesel exhaust valve information. I learned something new today.

I received a reply from Steve Chapman. My e-mail to him today about providing him with information on my father's dealership. He was open to me providing whatever I had. I will get this information to him soon.

I also talked about the activity on this site to compile information on Packard dealers and was there anything he had that could help us in this effort. I have not heard back from him on this. I will tread lightly with Steve on this topic. Like O_D says it does not matter where the information is located, this site or another.

My father's dealership in Santa Fe, N.M. was serviced out of the Kansas City, Mo. zone office. I believe that earlier (1920s) there was a distributorship in Albuquerque operated by Roland Sauer. I am not sure what the distributor's role was in those days. I remember going with my father to the Kansas City zone office to take delivery of new cars. He drove them back to Santa Fe. There were dealer drive aways from the factory and zone offices too. Different times.

I think the quickest and easiest way to get dealer information to the members is as I recommended earlier. Have members provide paper copies to Kevin so he can scan them and post the scans on the website. If we feel the need to elaborate on this then it can be started. In the mean time we have added another feature to the site.

Some time back I tried to contact the PAC dealer roster keeper to add my father's dealership to his roster. I don't know the reasons, but he never responded to me. Maybe someone else will have better luck. It would be nice to see what he has.

I can't believe how much traffic this topic has created, which is good, I guess, as it shows how much interest there is in the subject.

O_D, you did try to warn me, but I had to try it for myself. I am used to working with spreadsheets with 2,500 rows and 20-30 columns, but these data had been entered through file transfer programs. It would be great to have a data base with the dealer info but we have to find a better way to get it into a useable form. Back to basics.

John, this is some vehicle! It always amazes me what people will do to have a different car. What are the covers on the cylinder heads for? I thought 2-cycle engines did not have valves, but could be mistaken. Thanks for sharing.

I took a stab at entering information from O_D's sample list last night. It is awful work and prone to error as the list is not easy to read. The spreadsheet is included in this message. I am rethinking this and think we are getting into analysis paralysis. O_D has offered to look-up dealers for us from his list. This is a generous offer. However, from someone who used to do salary survey data analysis for a living, I always wanted to see the raw data. If Kevin is agreeable, maybe a good simple solution would be for us to provide him with whatever dealer lists we have, have him scan the pages, post the scans on the website. It would be up to individual members to search through the lists to find the dealer in which they have an interest. I have no interest in hand entering the data.

I am finishing up a project and might consider entering basic dealer information into a spread sheet like Kevin suggested. I like his idea of getting the basic information, then layering additional information later and/or as it becomes available. I did instigate this and feel some responsibility to it. Let me try the sample sheet O_D provided and see how it goes and how all of you out there like it. Okay?
