Re: woodgrain painted interior trim - '49 Deluxe Club

Fish'n Jim
Thanks, I'll check these guys out and see if in the cards for me. Or I'll try and round up a faux artist for the graining and shoot the base myself. Otherwise, it's not worth doing for me. Just pick a color that goes with the interior and/or powder coat.
Anyone have/know any source for original pictures of the trim w/ grain? I only found one dash shot by online search and it's not correct based on what I see.
That manuf. method explains why it flakes off like it does on the curves, the paint bond gets "disturbed" when they bend it, which made me think maybe some sort of "decal" or laminated sheet process. I think they did tin toys like that too. Silk screen flat then press.
Being a southern car, all the paint is toasted and once the paint is gone...surface rust. So I'm probably going to need to blast so it'll need a complete redo.
The remaining grain is only present on the underside where it was out of the sunlight. That's how I noticed. I thought it was just brown for ~two months. So I don't hold much hope it will "polish out" all over.
I believe I have the interior paint codes (from this site?) but don't remember seeing any graining product/2 tone.
ps: I promise I won't even consider using "contact paper"!!!

woodgrain painted interior trim - '49 Deluxe Club

I finally got under the dash, and noticed what I thought was one color brown, sunburned off, is actually wood grain where the sun didn't get it.
Is this factory painted on or decal?
I found one interior picture online and it wasn't what I have. It didn't match, looked more like a cherry wood - air brush look, no graining. I was going to paint this trim myself, but I'm no faux artist. I can do the base coat, and clear if it calls for it but not the graining. Otherwise, I'll go incorrect - one color.
Any thoughts or info would be appreciated.

I ordered these and they weren't correct and not worth the postage back. If any one needs either, send me you're mailing address and specify red or black decal to fishn.jim2@gmail.com

6V battery cables - good source FYI

I just received a set of 2/0 GA 24" cables from "the PACER Group" out of Sarasota FLA. www.pacergroup.net (800)424-9549 They were only $56 for pair including shipping and I got them in 2 days. Really nice.
Modern, not correct for the purist, but really nice and functional. They have 4/0 also and red+ & black-.
I looked at making a pair and the cost of the wire was more than these and they are complete and even have the rubberized terminal covers on both ends.

I think what U have is missing the top. This was manufactured by "AC" (Delco). There's a good picture of one in the "plates" in the service manual listed in literature and manuals. This is mine - I just "restored".

Thanks, loads! I owe U, JD. Ordered shorties.
ps:I called Mallory, they make alot of similar dists. and found their clip set : kit#29318 @ Summit Racing but don't know if they fit, but look very adaptable and there on there way. Same bracketry. Clips can be shortened or bent.
NAPA is getting me in a early Ford "cap adapter" to look at today. May be able to use the clips off it. So I should be clip rich soon. Thanks again, clubbies.

Someone would have to be hoarding a cache of pre-50 distributor parts, those don't appear avail on-line unless someone knows a source?
The '50+ GM six clips look right and they are in-stock rebuilt, but I don't relish paying for a whole dist. to get one clip. Off to the stores. Thanks.

Delco 1110811 cap clip?

Things were going along great, and the little bottom tab, ~1/4 by 1/8, busted off the dist cap clip on one side. I bead blasted, painted, retensioned, and must've been too thin there. I'll try the usual suspect parts stores tomorrow, but is that clip even available? Everybody has caps, etc.
I know there are rebuilders so they might have spares/parts.
What others might fit or how to make? The 8N tractor (autolite) one I saw has a two hole bracket which is no go. I might be able to file the clip down. I guess, if push comes to shove, I can reverse the bracket and file off the sides to get a tab, heat and bend. It's too small to weld and on the floor somewhere. Any suggestions welcome...

Re: Opinions sought on oil pump rebuild and gas tank clean/repair

Improvise, adapt, and overcome.
After searching for days, I think I found a new tank that I can adapt for less than half the price of a repair. The bad news, costs almost as much to ship it.
I've been cleaning mine for two days now and it still smells like gas and the fuel line outlet has no plug in it but is water tight! Must be a rusted shut plugged screen in there. There's a good amount of solids. I'm going out now to try and flush them out but these tanks aren't designed for cleaning. So I don't hold much hope for this one except peel apart, blast, reseal, coat like a Renu job. That's more time and money. Long term I'll probably reroute the fuel fill and do away with the fender door anyway. I thought about a mustang type, with the filler in the trunk, which solves some floor pan issues, but I don't like gas in the passenger compartment. There's no fire wall on that side.
