You can just plug the outlet to the heater core and the inlet at the pump side, correct? My understanding is these cars weren't always sold with heaters in the first place. All my Packards and Henney-Packards had heaters but if they did not come with it, the connections would have been plugged rather than looped around. Doing that makes quite a bit of coolant bypass the radiator.

Yes, quite a bit narrower but taller, I believe.

TxGoat beat me too it as that's what I was about to say!
As for it being the original engine, I've owned five Henney-Packards with three being in the same era as the one you're working on and they have a different ID plate than the passenger cars. If it's still there, it should have the engine number stamped on it so just compare it to the engine. If it's missing, you can still determine if it's the proper engine even if not the actual original by the engine number. The information is here on this site.

For some reason I am having trouble uploading photos Photos are easy once you get used to it. In the form at the bottom of the post, just select the one you want to upload, then press the Upload button! Repeat for each photo you want to show. If you're sending high resolution photos from an iPhone or other mobile device, best to not do it full size as they may be to large to Upload. You can add or remove any photos after you've posted too by selecting Edit for the post, then following the same procedure as outlined above. Note: even though Apple's HEIC format photos are shown as an accepted type, they do not seem to work.

My 1954 Patrician that was fully rebuilt including new lifters, driven as an everyday car and on club tours, then was abruptly parked over 40 years ago and recently brought back to life. When cold, it has a noisy lifter which goes away after it warms up. Based on the sound on mine, I think it’s a sticky valve rather than a bad lifter so without hearing yours, it’s difficult to say.

Welcome to Packards! Hard to tell what it is without any photos, though.

Today I wasn’t out at the shop for long but got the u-joints pressed out of the rusty driveshaft. They were sure stuck but my little cheapie press got the job done with the aid of lots of PBlaster.
The plan was to have it sandblasted tomorrow, then put in the new u-joints but it is so bad that even as rough as the car is, I don’t want to install it that way. So the alternate plan is to take the proper yoke from it and put in on the other better shaft on which someone has replaced the yoke with a smaller one. To that end, I am taking it to Napa in Redmond in the morning where it will be shuttled by them to their Bend machine shop about 30 miles south where the work will be done. In the photos, the upper photo is the proper yoke while the lower one has a replacement. The replacement was apparently put on by adding a sleeve over the shaft’s end so I hope the tube itself wasn’t cut. I knew the ball went under the accelerator pump but couldn't figure out where the brass piece went. It's as clear as day on the diagram! I'll be working on one of these pretty soon too so good to know.

Will it work on the 327 and 359 lifters too? If so, I want one!
