yes, significant differences. Some you can tell by measurement and knowledge, some are so slightly different you have to know to know. General or Specific question?

Ken - I know of a 39 sedan that is being fitted with a 6BTA, and the project is going extremely slowly. The 6BTA is an extremely heavy engine, much more so than the Packard engine, now add a transmission and the weight is a big concern. And say goodbye to the crossmember. I have another friend who did some serious measuring for a 4BT, which was a much better fit, and easily available with a GM TH350 or better, however the power band really is not that impressive, and again goodbye to the crossmember. Now a 3.7 or 3.9 Isuzu...
That said, stop inhaling the VOC's from the cleaning products. The Packard Six is a well suited engine to the car - if you really want to do some modification, focus on the rear axle. Right now you have 4.36 gears and to really enjoy highway speeds, 3.9 or lower is required. If you want your Cummins fix, head over to TDR1.com, then come back here and talk Packard! DAF

I grew up with an original 39-120 Convertible Sedan. For what its worth, and I have not consulted the parts book, my recollection was a rubber mat on the floor of the trunk. Since our car did not have sidemounts, the plywood shelf was painted black and the insides of the trunk were otherwise simply painted or very lightly undercoated. I recall the wooden top well covered with that very thin vinyl-like fabric, peeling off of course.
Since then, most trunks I have seen, like the Hyman pictures, have been restored to a higher standard.

just got distracted...headlight buckets as shown, $200 for the pair, quite solid, missing one of the hollow bolts, but one of yours should be salvageable. Runningboards ain't gonna happen - my contact is going to save them for a project he will never get to....sorry for the hopes. still a big N.O. on rear fenders.

Hydraulic Jack oil or Motorcycle fork oil. Most people I know simply use the jack oil, but which is better...
