I agree with HH56. If the primary lead wire from coil to the distributor is original the insulation is probably frayed in several places causing a short. I had that happen last month. Easy enough to replace with some 14-16 gauge wire and a good crimping tool.

I agree with Randy. No need to be concerned. I guarantee you'll be the hit of the party. The Geneva Concours has a section for club parking. Packards of Chicagoland will have a spot to hang out and talk Packards. I'll email you some details.

Wishing your mother in law a speedy recovery and all the best in her upcoming surgery. I know what it's like to have a parent that's ailing.

Looking good Tom
August 4th is Packard Night at the Elmhurst Cruise and August 22nd is the Geneva Concours. I think you're ready to show her off.

No Michigan Region of either Packard club.

At least the front doors and portico should be preserved.

Motor City Packards is a very active region of PAC. Many items have been rescued/purchased and are or will be on display at America's Packard Museum, The Packard Proving Ground and The Packard Musuem.

Mr. Pushbutton here is our ace reporter on what's going on in Motown. I'm sure he'll keep us informed.

I just picked up the August 2010 Collectible Automobile magazine and this car is featured. Good article and pictures.

I recall another connection with baseball and Packards. Billy Martin was the world series MVP in 1953. I recall seeing a news reel where he received the award and a brand new Packard. I wonder what happened to that car?

I agree Dave. If you take the Duco number and formulation to a DuPont paint dealer they should be able to come up with a very close modern match. You can also email the DuPont Color Library with the year, name and Duco code for the color and they will email you a close modern match withing 24 hours. I think their email is :

Auto-Ref.Color@usa.dupont.com

Attached is a copy of the 1937 color chip chart. Packard Cream is light yellow. Sort of like a post it note. I have seen several 1937 120 convertibles in this color going back to the late 1970's.
