Kev,

that is the place i bought the bands and the direct drive clutch from. i will talk to him about what else i can get from him that will be an improvement. ;0)

Carl,

Funny thing.....my wife took the video...without a a tripod. i'd say she is good camera worker. she was hovering over the top of me. i'll take more videos, i should have done this when i started. that would have been fun. ;0)

Keegan,

thanks dude! your doing great too!!

and now on to tonights progress. i got the transmission cleaned off with the powerwasher....in 35 degree weather....yes i am crazy and yes it was REALLY cold, cause i got all wet before i was done. it sucked! LOL!

check out the pics....now THAT is how you clean a transmission. i still have to finish up the top side, i just went over it quick as i was getting tired and running out of steam. and since the bell housing and tailshaft are aluminum, i don't have to worry about those rusting from the powerwasher bath i gave them.

i love these pics, clean clean clean ;0) i like shiny metal ;0)

later,

Hank

Great videos!

You're a real inspiration for me. I'm trying to keep up my momentum by following your progress. Albeit at a fraction of your pace.

MORE DIY VIDEOS!!

Actually, those photos were due to my being captive and tethered to the PACA Swap Meet Tent. "An Objective Non-Interested Party" was needed to set prices for the club parts. Notwithstanding the fact that I was attacked by a brake drum being dropped from about 8 feet above my left big toe (a 41-47 Clipper 6 cylinder rear, if it matters), I was there for about 6 hours straight, thankfully kept barely alive by liquid refreshment brought by PeterPackard....and now back to the regularly scheduled string...

No need for a conversion kit as such but you will need a manual bellhousing, flywheel, pressure plate, etc,etc from a 288/327 to make the conversion to suit the '38 trans. These should be reasonably readily available. As I stated earlier I think the '38 should bolt up to the 288/327 bellhousing. I think we need Peter to expand somewhat to fill in the details and point us in the direction of the "procedure" Pete?

EDIT - Added link to Peter's '38 with 327

Thanks for the videos Hank! They are indeed very well done. Thanks for using a tripod, I hate shaky videos. If I had requests, how about tuning, timing, brakes...man the mind races...

Hank,

While you are already into the transmission that deep, you should consider looking at some the improved parts that UltramaticDynamics.com makes. For example they have a beefier parking prawl mechanism that prevents the Ultramatic from getting stuck in park. I believe they also have a couple other improved parts for the ultras. Also their gaskets are top notch.

I have seen that first hand. He is like a Packard Parts Ninja. There one second, then gone. Then next thing you know he's right next to you. Very stealthy!

Spotting the Flackmaster in his natural habitat is very difficult. The Flackmaster normally moves at speeds faster than the eye can see; only a buzzing from pile of parts to pile of parts can be heard. I am very surprised to see a digital still image can freeze the Flackmaster in his natural surrounding. Perhaps this is worthy of submission to the National Geographic Magazine.

I would imagine a captive Flackmaster could be very useful in the identification of sundry Packard bits and the like.

Hi again,
So it was brought to my attention that I screwed up in the subject line of my thread, so sorry for the confusion. So to clarify - my friend has a 38 packard w/manual transmission, wants to put a 327 from a 53 patrician with automatic tranny into it but keep it stick shift. Will the 327 motor bolt onto the manual tranny of the 38? Or do we need to get a conversion kit? It was mentioned that there is a procedure somewhere on how to do this but I couldn't find it.
Sorry again for the confusion and thanks for the help so far!
This site is going to be great help once he starts putting it all together!
