Re: Chev drivetrain swap on these cars?

To second what bkazmer said with that many cyls with no comp
it just about has to be some stuck valves, it sure didn't run
that way before. Those valves probably weren't stuck until you tried to turn it over, the springs just won't quite pull
them shut, these heads are really pretty easy to pull, a good
chance if you GENTLY tap them shut a few time and spray under them a few times with a penetrating oil they will start to work, then you can put it back together with the old gasket
and no coolant to try the comp test again, really 90 lbs on an engine that has been sitting a while isn't all that bad,
maybe the rest of the cyls are in about the same shape.
If this doesn't work at least you aren't out a lot of money for new parts, just some time.Just my .02

That shift linkage must have been a nightmare also.

I was editing my earlier post as you were answering, that pulley doesn'T look twice as large as the later engines so the fan
etc must have rotated slower.

As Owen Dyneto said MAJOR changes in the engine, is it
even a 67 degree V? The crankshaft pulley seems to indicate
a "flatter" V. ON second though never mind that's not the
crankshaft pulley probably geared to the crank.

Just something to check first is the adjustment of the
wheel bearings, usually the king pins would have play top and
bottom, side to side not so much.

Yeah that's a much better view of the same car I mentioned earlier. Also a GT Hawk, 2 2dr 48-52, and what looks like
a Loewy coupe. Quite an interesting little grove.

Is that perhaps the Avanti peeking around the tree beside the Packard?

I've found denatured alcohol to work well, household isopropyl
has a pretty high water content.

Kev,
When you mention a title verifier was he listed as such or
was he though a title company?
Here the auto title companies seem to be mainly occupied in
getting paperwork to and from the capitol mainly for dealers.
Any cars have to be inspected by a state patrol officer, but in
my experience they are mainly looking for stolen numbers or
chop shop output.

Yea that makes sense about the irrigation angle since the car came from around the Ft Collins, CO area as far as I can tell.
Thanks guys, for some info it would have hard if not impossible to come by anywhere else.It seems to run great but I am having some really bad probs with varnish in the tank.We drained it of course,(it had sat since 1983 or so) but this gunk must have been on the walls of the tank,it came through the filter and screens and carburetor and is lying on the bottom of the intake! Black as pitch and sets up when exposed to air.So I am waiting on a new carb kit and I guess we will pull the tank and clean it out.
Any suggestions on a good (easy) way to do this?
