Since I have a 55, I don't know the answer to this question, but a friend and I are discussing this. What is the correct radiator/hood ornament for this vehicle? Would it be the Comorant or the Pelican?
Thanks,
John

Clipper Rims and epoxy primer
#73
Home away from home
Home away from home

John
Has anyone sandblasted a set of steel Clipper rims (55) and painted them with epoxy primer? I'm pretty sure that the sealing bead is pitted because I have three that will not hold air and leak around the bead. If so, what type of primer did you use, and how much of it for 5 wheels? Also, I have heard that you need to color coat epoxy primer soon after spraying since it is UV sensitive and will begin to degrade; true?
Thanks,
John

Have you tried hooking up a gravity feed fuel supply or an electric fuel pump to eliminate possible carb or engine problems?
Just a thought.......

Bigkev,
That's pretty much what I thought. Mine have lots of "pinholes" but are suprisingly sturdy, so I may just spend the time welding, or brazing, up the holes. At least that's a job I can do lying down.... ;^)

Aftermarket Rocker Panels

Has anyone tried replacing the rocker panels on a 55 2 door Clipper? How was the fit quality? Are the replacement panels pretty much a "one size fits all" for 55/56 2door Clippers? How difficult of a job was the replacement?
Thanks for any and all info.

Kev, did you get the benchtop model or the standalone cabinet? I'm wondering if a Jr. wheel will fit in one of the units, preferably the benchtop version.

This may be a silly thought, but could you line the shells with something like plastic and pour a plaster cast of the shell? You could then use the cast to transfer measurements directly onto the hardwood. Or mayby line with saran wrap and fill the shell with modeling clay...

Early Ford Truck Disc Brakes on Packard
#79
Home away from home
Home away from home

John
My search failed to find the article here, but I recall reading somewhere about being able to use early Ford truck spindles and disc brake assemblies on a Packard, with a minimum of machining. Obviously, the master cylinder and booster would have to be changed out as well. Has anyone done or researched this? If so, what was/is the consensus?
Thanks,
John

55 Clipper rim
#80
Home away from home
Home away from home

John
I will be traveling from New Orleans to Orlando in late May/early June, and was wondering if anyone along the Interstate route would have one, or possibly two, steel rims for a 1955 Clipper that they would like to sell for a reasonable price. I have seen a few eBay posts, as well as a couple via the various forums, but shipping for the rims is usually more than the rim itself. I have a set of 4 on the car now, but all need to be blasted and repainted and only one of the four actually holds an airseal with tubeless tires. Unfortunately, work schedules have not allowed me to work much on the Packard for the last year, or so, but an upcoming job change will put me into a more stable schedule, so I want to get back to work and get her rolling. I'm also looking for the piece of exterior body metal that flanks the passenger side rear window on a 2 door. If anyone has a body that they are willing to cut the piece out of, I would be happy to send a photo of the parts that I need.
Thanks,
John
