Bought a rebuilt starter off ebay but I think its got a bad armature. The battery shows 6 volts load tested for 30 seconds still shows 6 volts.Replaced both battery cables with 2/0 cable and ran cables all the way to the starter. When I first installed the starter it turned very slow and then did start turn faster after a few turns. When the engine is hot 165 degrees. shut off the engine and tried to restart the engine it was turning very slow and would not start the engine. The old starter worked better than that.

In the trunk of a 1941 160 that I bought a few years ago there was a US royal tire. That car was parked in 1954 or 55 and had 58000 miles. I wonder if that was 1 of the original tires for the car. I still have the tire if I think of it I will post a picture this weekend. I remember looking for a date code the tire is so old it doesn’t have a date code. And from what i read us royal became uniroyal in 1961

I always torque heads several times. I install them and torque bolts to 15 ft lbs. Then 30 then 45 then 62. run engine leave engine cool and retorque. I had a problem with a head gasket from olsons. Someone must have dropped it and there was a wrinkle in the corner. I called olsons and they said it would be fine I put it on and it leaked where the wrinkle was. I called olsons they said they had a 5 day return policy and I was past that and they would not take it back.

Jerome your on the right track I found the problem and your not going to believe it. My brother-in-law said it was the fuel pump i did not believe it was but I thought I would try a electric pump. So I figured I would unhook the gas line and run the engine out of gas so the mechanical pump would not be pumping gas all over the place. I started the engine with the gas line disconnected and as always it was shimmy and shakeing but for the last minute or 2 the engine had smooth out. I said to myself the float must be adjusted wrong. I took the top of the carb off and I was looking at the float and needle and seat and I found a piece of hair in the needle and seat. I removed that put the carburetor back together and its been running smooth for a 1/2 hour. I think I got it.Sneeky in deed. I wanted to say thanks everyone for the replys

the choke works and it is wide open when warm. I recently replace the exhaust pipe going to the manifold and i checked the heat riser at that time. The car has hydraulic valves so they self adjust. I also tried putting a jumper wire between battery cable and coil also did the coil to distributor. Sometimes I shut the car off and restart it 5 minutes later and it runs smooth again for the first couple minutes. Also checked for fuel in carb by hitting the throttle. My brother-in-law says to replace the fuel pump but why would it run smooth for the first couple minutes if that was bad. Also it usually starts up easy when its warm
